WHAT
IS CAT 5?
If you're school spirited and like being involved, then Category 5 is the perfect organization for you.
Category 5 is the Spirit Programming Board at the University of Miami. By increasing student attendance and awareness at all sporting events, Cat 5 attempts to foster that orange and green Hurricane spirit amongst students.
Part of Student Government, Category 5 works with other groups such as
Hurricane Athletics and the Rathskeller Advisory Board (RAB) to plan
events and tailgates on campus. Cat 5's events range from pep
rallies, meet and greets with players and coaches, tailgates, Freshman
and Senior
Walk at Sun Life Stadium, planning and running the Hurricane Force
Incentive Program, running Storm Surge and the student section at basketball
games, face painting,
giving out items such as shirts and rally towels, planning the
annual football road trip, and various other promotions throughout the
school year.
Each major sport has a corresponding committee in Cat 5. Each committee is responsible for planning and running events relating to its sport. For more info on the individual committees and what they do, please see the committees page on this site.
HOW DO I JOIN?
Joining Category 5 is easy. Just stop by one of our meetings, sign up, and join a committee. Meetings are held every other Monday at 7pm in the UC Ballrooms. You can also get info on meetings, events, and promotions that Cat 5 does by checking this website or by liking Category 5 on Facebook.
WHY SHOULD I JOIN?
Joining Cat 5 gives you an experience like no other on campus.
Category 5 gives you an opportunity to spread spirit on
campus, all while planning activities, events, and giveaways at your
favorite sporting events. Cat 5 members are expected to put
in work in either planning or helping out at events, but the entire
experience not only helps your fellow students, but it is quite
rewarding in itself.
Oh, and joining Cat 5 is the only way to ride the most tricked-out golf cart you'll ever see, our Hummer!
So show that you bleed orange and green and join Category 5!
