FOOTBALL COMMITTEE back to top

The Football Committee is responsible for planning and running all events related to football on campus and at Sun Life Stadium, such as Freshman and Senior Walk, face-painting outside the student section, and conducting various giveaways.  The Football Committee also works with the Rathskeller Advisory Board (RAB) to organize, plan, and run football tailgates at the Rat for all away games.  In addition, the committee helps to organize and plan the annual Cat 5-sponsored football road trip.

The Football Committee will help in developing and advertising tennis promotions during the spring semester.

BASKETBALL COMMITTEE back to top

The Basketball Committee runs Storm Surge, the elite student section for men's and women's basketball games.  Storm Surge members will be the first to enter the BankUnited Center for each game, get priority seating, get Storm Surge jerseys, and get invited to watch parties and special events with the coaches and teams. The committee also works with UM Athletics and Marketing to plan, organize, and carry out numerous events, activities, and giveaways during the basketball games, as well as distributing issues of the Gameday Report.

If you’d like to get involved with the committee, they have pre-meetings every Monday at 5:45 p.m. at the Rathskeller, or you can join them at the Category 5 general member meetings every other Monday at 6:30pm.  Also, don’t forget to check out and join the Storm Surge group on Facebook. If you have any questions, please contact us at UMStormSurge@yahoo.com.

BASEBALL COMMITTEE back to top

The Baseball Committee works to promote the baseball team through various activities and giveaways throughout the spring semester.  It carries out promotions and giveaways, as well as attracting large student crowds to home baseball games.  This season, the Baseball Committee will be implementing the brand new Hurricane Watch student section to support the 4-time national champion Miami Hurricanes at every home game held at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park.

During the fall semester, the Baseball Committee will be responsible for assisting with Football, Basketball, and Hurricane Force operations.  Check out the Baseball Committee on Facebook.

OLYMPIC SPORTS COMMITTEE back to top

The Olympic Sports Committee is responsible for boosting student attendance at and promoting the Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Tennis, Track and Field, Swimming and Diving, and Women's Volleyball.  We work closely with Athletics and Marketing to help plan special promotions at these events and to help to coordinate the NEW Soccer Student Group, the "Miami []_[]nited."

SPECIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE back to top

The Special Events Committee handles all Category 5 work not directly related to games.  This committee plans pep rallies, tailgates, and watch parties that Category 5 runs, as well as other events like Meet-and- Greets. Special Events is always looking for new ideas for great events, so if you have an idea that you think would be awesome, just email one of the chairs and we will work with you on it!  You can email Hailey Bush at h.bush@umiami.edu or Doug Aguililla at d.aguililla@umiami.edu.

SPONSORSHIP COMMITTEE back to top

The Sponsorship Committee works to obtain donations and sponsorships for Category 5.  In the past this committee has helped with getting food for pep rallies, funding for away trips, and getting incentives for student sections. The Sponsorship Committee is also in charge of getting prizes for Category 5 sponsored contests. Members that join in this group will be expected to reach out to area businesses in order to obtain some of these sponsorships. This committee provides an excellent opportunity for students to become involved in the surrounding community while working directly with the student body.

PR/MARKETING COMMITTEE back to top

The PR/Marketing Committee is responsible for designing an assortment of flyers, posters, banners, and other advertisements to promote and support Category 5, UM athletic teams, and school spirit in general. The committee handles advertisement like creating Facebook events to promote certain games and events on campus.  Members also occasionally assist in the design of shirts, towels, and other giveaways for the various Cat 5 committees, as well as other ways of marketing Category 5 and UM athletics to the student body.  Essentially, any Category 5 event that validates promotion and advertisement is done through and by PR Committee members.

SPIRIT & TRADITIONS COMMITTEE back to top

The Spirit and Traditions Committee is responsible for fostering and improving campus traditions and improving school spirit.  We try to develop new ways to get students excited about sporting events and do whatever we can to get them there. We also recognize the importance of traditions on campus and at sporting events and do our best to ensure students follow the traditions our school has as well as attempt to come up with new traditions.  We are in charge of the famous Category 5 Hummer golf cart and take it around campus weekly to promote sporting events.  We work with the chairs in every sport to come up with the best ways to promote their sports and get students excited about coming out.

HURRICANE FORCE COMMITTEE back to top

The Hurricane Force Committee is responsible for running Hurricane Force, an incentive program that rewards you just for being a Hurricanes fan.  Members of the committee will work with each other to maintain a comprehensive incentives program for all undergraduate students who attend sporting events.  Members must be committed to attending sporting events and consider themselves organized and of unquestionable integrity.

For more information on how Hurricane Force works, including prizes and how to get points, visit the Hurricane Force page or check out Hurricane Force on Facebook.
